GUIDELINES FOR CLASS

  1. Upon entering the class students must salute the flags, then bow to the presiding instructor. The instructor will acknowledge the bow if he is not occupied. Otherwise, the student need not wait for such acknowledgement.
  2. When class is officially to begin warm-ups cease, and all students line up in order of rank and seniority with the highest ranking member on the right side facing the flags. The highest rank member then calls the class to order.

    The class then:

  3. Salutes flags with silent prayer.
  4. Instructor then turns facing the class. The class then bows to instructor.
  5. During class, proper respect and discipline will always be maintained.
    1. Should the Master Instructor enter the class, the presiding instructor (or highest rank member) will call the class to attention and together, bow to the Master Instructor. Immediately after, the class resumes training.
    2. Should a student be unavoidably late for class, he enters quietly and waits until the instructor gives a sign of recognition. The student then approaches, bows and obtains permission to join class.
    3. Should it be necessary for a student to leave the class while in session, he or she first receives permission from the presiding instructor, unless he or she has been able to do so before class.
  6. At the end of instruction, students again line up as in the beginning of class, the highest rank member Issuing the orders as before.
  7. All unnecessary noise or rowdy behavior is alien to the class. Silence is the rule, specially during Free Sparring.
  8. Proper salutation is expected in class. Proper deportment includes prudence, self-control, and patience, Even under the excitement of sparring. Before and after an exercise or form, participants turn around and adjust their uniform, if paired with a sparring partner, each makes a correct salutation to the opponent or instructor.
  9. Even when seated on the floor, members keep a posture fitting with good health and alertness to the progress of the class. Legs are crossed in front with the feet tucked beneath the thighs, hands are placed on the knees, the back is held straight.
  10. Personal cleanliness is reflected in the cleanliness of the class.
  11. Uniforms must be regularly laundered and pressed. It is a form of proper respect to one's body to keep it clean and one's club to be neatly dressed in order to exemplify the external image of internal dedication. Fingernails and toenails are trimmed, not only for grooming, but for safety.
